HankinColorado#1A in .25-06
Recently browsing my local Gun Shoppe, and happened upon a new Ruger #1A chambered in (what I considered odd) .25-06. Has anyone else seen this version?

Thomas JonesI never have herd of such a rifle, but i am a new #1 fan, you might check the barrel markings and see if some idiot did'nt rechamber a .257 Roberts to 25,06. I bought and FN some rechamberd and never marked...tj3006

HankinColoradoWell, it's puzzling me more and more as it's allegedly a new "out-of-box" rifle. Did notice one other thing, it's definitely got #1A characteristics (stock profile, barrel band, Alex Henry-style forend, etc.) but has no sights (thought all #1A's came with sights). The wood is relatively nice, very blond in color. Maybe they just had some leftover parts and decided to slap 'em all together...

AK HunterI think that's a No.1-AB. Slender barrel, no sights. Ruger did make a run of those last year in .25-06. Don't know if they are continuing it or if its a "limited edition" run like the .257 Bob. K1-A.

HankinColoradoWell, that was one of my first thoughts. Sure looks like a #1-AB but with the Alex Henry-style forend. Guess it doesn't matter anymore, it's mine now...

HankinColoradoWhen in doubt,RTFM. Turns out to be a #1-AH per Ruger. That's a new one on me. Just FYI...

Might check with the No. 1 group on Yahoo and see what they can tell you about it. Actually, there are Ruger no.1's around that'd amaze you as far as configuration and chambering are concerned. In some cases, there's only one or two of a particular example. One that comes to mind is the small group of No.1A's (or was it RSI's??) that are marked
"275 Rigby". These, of course, have 7X57mm Mauser chambers but the British marking.

MickinColoFrom what I can see is that the only difference between an “A†and “AB†is the “AB†has no iron sights. Neither one of them are listed in a 20-06.

HankinColoradoYou're correct Mick, that's all I could see as well. After reviewing the documentation that came with the rifle, turns out to be identified as a #1-AH by the folks at Ruger.

Without sights, it is NOT a 1A. It may be the same in all other respects, but to be a 1A, it MUST have the sights!
What is the barrel length? 23"???? 1A's are ALL 22", which is a bit on the short side for a .25/'06...... (IMO!!).
It might be rare-or even a factory mustake! Buy it immediately! You can find out what it really is afterward!

The .25-06 1-AH is a special run from a wholesaler - I think it is Lipsey's.
They also are doing a stainless 1-A in .35 Whelan.

El DeguelloI believe the 1AB was a 1A in MOST all respects but had a "B" style forend instead of the Alex Henry style. BUT I don't recall if it had iron sights or not......
Well, gee! Here's one on Gunbroker.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=72539056Looks like it has no iron sights..... If that's the correct picture!
But it has a 24" barrel!

Back in the ot 60's I was in love with the #1, saved and scrounged around and found a 25-06 (Factory bbl) in a #1 and bought it. Sure was pretty, but you could cover the 100 yd groups with a ten gallon hat. Didn't have the patience to work with it, so it got traded.

HankinColoradoWell, my first groups were certainly discouraging (3"-4"). But after an hour of on-line research and a 3 cent piece of plastic. She's settled down to be a relatively consistent 1.25" rifle. Love #1's!!!
