Looking for .223 or .22 Hornet
No luck yet in classified. WTB a break open in .223 or .22 Hornet....seems like the right thread....

What are you looking for? Most likely, it will be either a H&R Handi rifle, or a Thompson Center. Rossi and CVA are making breakopens too. You might have to check some other forums, besides AR. I have a CVA in 44 mag, that I really like. Also have a H&R Sportster, in .22 rimfire.

Are you wanting new or used? If I run across one on some of the other forums I frequent, I'll give you a heads up.

I have a Handi-rifle in .22 Hornet. After my experiences with the .243 barrel on the same rifle, I wouldn't buy a Handi in .223 or any other rimless cartridge. The .45-70 barrel and the .22 Hornet eject flawlessly, but .243 cases get stuck about half the time. Handloads (not hot ones either) stick more than factory loads, but factory loads stick too.

I think H&R/NEF still catalogs Hornet barrels at least.

I am looking for something in the price range of the one stolen....need not be pristine as long as it functions well....the one I lost was a .223 and I had no problems with ejection...

Ideally an NEF or H&R with a synthetic stock.

Thanks

There's somebody with aSavage M-219 Hornet on GunAmerica(?). Wants ~$390 for it. I have one and it's a nice little shooter.

I suggest you contact some Brno dealers about the Brno break-open .222 Remington.

I have one which shoots half-inch groups and smaller, and it is a very nice looking rifle to boot. (Mine has unusually nice butt-stock wood.)

Anyway they are NOT expensive guns either.

Mine cost me just barely over $200 NIB at Auction Arms (including scope mount and shipping) when Remington 700s were selling new for about $500 MSRP just a few years back.

Edited to add...I am speaking of the ZBK series, NOT the "Effect" series. The Effect is a $1,600 rifle. A ZBK 110 in .222 Remington just sold on gunauction.com for $248 the day before yesterday.

I've been doing some more checking, and find that one sold just last October on gunsinternational for $148. The finish is now matt instead of polished blue, and the wood is much more plain than it used to be, but the gun prices have gone up little or none in the real world. A few dealers are trying to sell them for almost $600, but I don't know why any sane person would pay that when they are commonly on line for $150 to $250.

I consider them one of the great buys in single-shot rifles...at least until more folks experience their accuracy and handiness. Incidentally, new they must have about a 12-lb. trigger pull, but it lightens rapidly with a bit of use.

To find links to a bunch of them, just Google ZBK .

And there is an interesting read on the ZBK 110s on 24-hour Campfire. I tried to post a link to it but it wouldn't work. Apparently they are convertible to much larger chamberings, such as the 5.6x50R, the 7x57 R, and so on...

Also, at least some of the parts for the Effect (the scope mounts for instance) also fit the ZBK.

They seem to be hit or miss. I have a buddy that has one in .223 that ejects just fine. Another friend had a .223, and he carried a screw-together cleaning rod around with him groundhog hunting to knock the empties out with. It may be that some of them have rough and/or undersized chambers.
