Handled a 9,3x74R Ruger No1 today
The 9,3x74R Ruger No1 had perfect weight, and balance for the cartridge.
It was nice.
The 9,3 is one of the perfect cartridges for the No1.

The one I saw was at Heritage Arms. It was a nice looking gun. No, it did not come home with me I have a double in 9,3, and a No1 in 45/70.

I do think a No1 in 9,3 is a great choice.

I will be back in SLC on Tuesday March 6 If any one wants me to check it out again.

505ED when were you in SLC??? I would have bought you lunch, since Aleko will never let me buy him lunch, I had him at gun point last time, but 500 grains showed up with lunch for both of us.... Foiled again....

Tony, I'm in SLC the first friday every month except this one. We need to get together some time. I'm trying to get Aleko to find me a good left handed S2. I'd like a 2 barrel set in either a 500-416 or a 500 and a 9.3x74R. I'm a tight German so it is hard for my money and I to part. Anyway I better get back to the grind stone.

What barrel length is Ruger using on these?

Ruger's 2007 catalog shows the 9.3x74R only offered in the No. 1 Sporter(1-S) with 22" barrel. Too bad they didn't make it in the Tropical(1-H) variation with 24" tube. The 405 Win. is offered in the Tropical version but yet the 9.3 is not.
That's kinda weird.

Actually kaschi I wish that Ruger had offered the .405 Win in the lighter med. Sporter version, then I would have bought one!....I will be buying a 9.3X74 as soon as I find one how ever...All these different "wants" must drive the gun makers out there nuts eh?

What part of Texas are you in.

I will be in SLC March 6,7& maybe the 8th.

An S2 in 500/416 and 9,3 would be a great combo.

IMHO the barrel diameter and length Ruger put on the No1 9,3x74R is perfect. The one I handled was just right.

NE 450 no2,

I live in between San Antonio and Blanco Texas. I am in SLC every 1st Thursday and Friday of the month untill we get someone hired for that area(I'm a fill in). PM me and we can put somthing together.

I think the barrel on the 9.3 is a 24" as Tony said it balances real well and is trim, unlike the tropical model.

I thank the Good Lord that rugger did NOT see fit to put a 26-28" barrel 1B variant out...they would have had all my money! Visualize a 1/3 octagon 27" barrel in about a nine pound rifle...? Sweet!!!

You guys are right. This is one fine package and I could not resist. After handling one last night I thought about it all day... so I just had to go buy it tonight. I tried to talk myself out of it since I have so many rifles and really no more space in the gun safe left...but it did'nt work. Now I can't wait to shoot it and Midway has the brass on backorder...drats.

I bought a #1 9.3 today ...... it's the perfect caliber for the #1, but then it's a great cartridge in any rifle. Can't wait to shoot it, but winter just won't die here in West Va.

Frank,

Did you by chance get yours from Cabelas? That is where I got mine (Hamburg,Pa)and am going to get one in the new #1 450-400 when I see one. It seems that Cabelas has some dibs on the new/hard to get guns.

Woody - I bought mine from a Ruger-direct dealer in Charleston. Also, another local gun store in my area received one today, so I bought a second one , & gave it to my son. Ruger has a bad habit of only making a few of some rifle-caliber combinations, so I figured I'd pick up another one (case in point - #1 .404 Jefferies). If they ever bring the #1 450/400 to market, I'm definitely going to grab two of those.

The next guns I will buy will all be Ruger #1s.

A RSI in 7x57
A Tropical in 450/400 NE
A Tropical in 405 WCF again, I owned one of these but sold it!
A Medium in 9.3x74R
And I could probably use a 45-70, 375, 458 Winchester, 338, and 257 Roberts, but that would be enough!

And I am either going to put Burris Euro Diamonds or Schmidt Bender, Swarovski, Kahles, Zeiss on the top!

Really getting to the point where for me personnally, anything that isn't 30mm looks wierd!

Howa bout if they made it in 300 H&H, 33 Winchester, 348 Winchester, 50-110, 375 Flanged, 35 Winchester, 7x65R, 6.5x65R.

I've spent a lot of time in Europe hunting etc.

I can see what it's doing to you. You start thinking about all that cool stuff that we Americans never really had availble to us growing up.

I love my #1's and the 9.3x74 has got to be the coolest one yet but I already have a .375 #1 totally custom and can't justify the 9.3. But I still have to have a #1A in any of the calibers they come in except .243.

Once you've used the Europian glass it's hard to gp back.

Here's vote #2 for the 7x65.
I think that is the cal I would want my #1A chambered in.
I loved my 7x64 untill it lost it's Accuracy that would be a great replacement

Akshooter,

Yep Europe has jaded me forever.

I habla Espanol now, well pretty good for a 5 year old. pigdin Espanol!

I and I sprechen zie jagtdeautch! But I really don't know enough German to do anything outside of hunting.

Yep I like German scopes, and I really like Burris. They are so much faster than Leupold at improving things it is really crazy.

I wish Burris would make a rail mount 3-12x56 with a German post reticle. I would be in heaven!
