Opinions re: Jeffery 450/400 3"
Re-stock or restore? Re-cut the checkering or just make solid everything about the wood that isn't and shoot the hell outta it?

The fore end looks worse than the butt. Hard say with getting it in hand. Lots of oil in that wood, though it may be fine after a good soak in acetone. Really a nice action to build on too.

I was thinking maybe get rid of the oil, 80% of the grime, and none of the dents. Rechecker and repair that crack in the fore-end. Do nothing to the metal and shoot it for the next 40 years or so.

hmmmm.....

I had Dustin Mounts in Houston refinish my double last year. He drew out the oil (it was beading up oil on hot days!) and refinishing without making it new. He recut checkering and didn't take every nick out. it looks like a well maintained 100 year old gun now. He takes his time to do a great job. I think your gun would be a worthwhile redo. I wanted to get the oil out so the stock didn't deteriorate on me. Bob
