WHICH RIFLE
Its time for another rifle. Ive narrowed the choice down to a CZ 550 magnum or a Ruger No1. I know they are vastly different, that why Im having so much trouble deciding--I want them both!

I have decided on 375HH. If/WHEN I do get to Africa I want a leopard hunt, so I figure the single shot wont be a problem. Ofcourse I hope not to need my PH; but Id want him to back me up.

I chose 375 because its the only big bore thats available on dealer shelves, here in whitetail country. Most of my vimited hunting is for whitetail, and the occasional wild boar. I know the 375 is more than I need; but its good practice for Africa.

The CZ bolt action has the advantage of extra rounds; but I keep going back to the mystique of the No1. My buddies who dont understand single shots arent any help.

Does the No1 need any after market work?

i'd trade off all the cz's for a good #1. usually on the #1's they respond so well to having the forend rebedded so it bears just on the hanger, that I do it automatically before I even shoot one. you can do a trigger job yourself or buy a new one either way if you want, but try it first,

I love single shot rifles for anything in NA....fwiw, I don't hunt bears or cougars.

Good hunting,

I recently acquired a CZ 550 in .416 Rigby, and a .416 Rigby barrel for a No. 1. I can certainly recommend the CZ, as it is a very fine shooter. However, I also want both, and have a No.1 .30/'06 that I got to use the .416 barrel on. However, I am testing it in '06 first, to determine if the current barrel is too accurate to scrap......

I am not convinced that the extra magazine capacity of the bolt action is any real advantage., as the No. 1 can be reloaded plenty fast enough. If I could only have one, and had the money, I'd buy the No.1......
