Creedmoor 2006 - Match Report
Well, I've just finished a week of shooting in Brisbane with some of the finest long range shooters in the world. Creedmoor shooting would have to be the greatest and most difficult matches ever. Imaging trying to hit a target the size of a plastic bucket consistantly from 1 kilometer away.

Rifles used are Black powder cartridge rifles, lead projectiles, and iron sights either originals or replicas of the same type used in the first matches held in 1874. All week the wind blew 20-35kph and yet these riflemen were able to change anywhere from 300 to 1000m and be on target with their first shot. Wind flags, forget it; there is little point in watching a flag 20 feet off the ground when the midrange rise of your bullet is 200 feet!

The winner from USA used an original Sharps Borchardt made in 1877 and chambered for 45/110 Sharps

Match results

Individual Mid Range Agg - 300 , 500 & 600yds

Dave Gullo (USA)

Teams Agg 800, 900 & 1000 (twice)yds

I was asked to shoot for NZ, to make up team numbers, so it was a great honour to be part of their team and contribute to the win.

BAW,
Thanks for posting the photos. Do you have any more of Dave's rifle?

It appears that he has the front sight held on with a rubber band.

If you have an equipment list- that might be interesting to report. Any muzzleloaders in the bunch?

Brent

Bad Ass:
I second Brent -- thanks for posting. I have met Dave Gullo and watched him shoot. He's not only a fine rifleman, but a fine guy as well.
I'd love to see an equipment list, too.
Congrats on your team's performance.

I'm glad to see that it's continuing. The Creedmoor Range was active from the 1870-90s and was located in NYC .It is now the sight of a psychiatric hospital !!Any connection ? Roll Eyes

I believe that Dave Gullo is using an either an original Sharps front sight, and MVA front sight, or a clone thereof. The lever that holds the inserts in place is notorious for moving, hence the rubber band to hold it. MVA makes great sights, but IMHO, their choice to copy an original Sharps target front sight may not have been the best one.
