Can you swap Ruger No 1 barrels without fitting?

I have a Ruger No. 1 chambered in 270 Win. Can I interchange barrels and fore ends for any other cartridges with the same case head diameter?

Sometimes they index correctly but usually not most times it is required to set the barrel back 1 turn and rechamber not terribly hard. I have had more not index than index total of 7 rebarrels in #1s and #3s. Hope this helps, Lynn
