GHopeI got my 1885, now what do I do with it??
OK, I managed to swap for a NIB Browning 1885 in 7mm mag. I already have a Weatherby MK V in their version of that caliber, and, being an infernal tinkerer, I'm thinking about making some changes. With the weight of the gun and having a 28" barrel, I was looking at rechambering to 7mm STW or RUM. Anyone have a preference or suggestions?

Thanks
Greg

cowboy77845The first thing I would do is glass bed the stock so as to remove all movement from the rod that holds the action to the stock. That will also strengthen the stock at a weak point. I have a 25-06 that had the hole ih the stock drilled off center. Recoil caused the stock to crack.. I got a new stock and glassed it. No more problem. Very accurate. I think I would leave the caliber alone. IMO you reduce the resale value by going to one of those "hard to find ammunition" calibers. Believe the 7STW is better though if you just have to mess with it.

Bad Ass WallaceMake a real gun out of it!
Badger barrel and chambered for 40/90BN fitted with a 6X MVA scope. Nice!

GHopeThat's my present to myself for graduating from college here in a few years. Don't have the time to take up a new hobby (BPCR) until that gets done.
