I would think that considering the way the forearm is set up on the #1, that a tight sling, whether on a barrel band or or the forearm itself would be detrimental to good shooting.
Consider this. With a tight sling pulling on the barrel via barrel band, your going to affect the barrel's vibrations. But you already knew that. With the sling swivel on the forearm, a tight sling would pull the forearm away from the barrel, again affecting the barrel's vibrations.
About the only solution I can see to fix that would be to free float the barrel so there is no contact. There might be a way to install a barrel block and fasten the forearm to that instead of the springy hanger system they use, but that's just a guess.

Paul,
I see the problem a little different but you might be right,
A tight sling on my for arm pulling down on the thin barrel of a 1#AIs likly to cause a shift in the point of impact, and change vibration.
I can not get a dollar beetween the for stock and the barrel and I might take the forstock off and see if a glass preasure point has been added. I have never considerd pulling the forstock from the barrel with a sling.
Are you familiar with the hicks system for #1s ? It is a method of dampining vibration with an adjustable preasure point.
If I have much trouble getting this thing to shoot i will try one.
Not teribly expensive at 58.00 it fastens to the hanger...tj3006
