Ruger #3 does it again!
Well it finialy cooled off and I tried every week-end to get out, but something always came up! ( you know how that story goes ).
This Friday I had to work but I was determined to give it a try, since I promised my kids some jerky for Christmas! Left the house at 4:30 AM Sat. (yes that's AM) and drove 92 miles to the ranch and was sitting in my blind by 6:30! It was supposed to be warm again, and there was a little fog around, I could see some movent in the brush and knew it was deer, but couldn't see for sure. I was straining to get a look at them at about 80 yds away, when a doe walks out not 30 yds from me! All she would show me was the classic "Texas Heart Shot", so I just watched her move off and join the other two "things" in the brush. The fog was lifting and the sun was getting better, when this 6 pointer came to join our little party! They all mulled around a bit and the buck finialy showed himself!
BANG! PLOP! Down he goes! My favorit Ruger#3 does it again!
Turns out he had 4 points on one side and 2 on the other!

Looks like the kids get some jerky after all! Big Grin

RL Man,

Is that an MPI composite stock? Do you like it?

The stock is a Bell & Carlson, it was an easy fit,all I had to do was open the barrel channel a bit and square the butt stock a tad. I realy like the way it handles and it even shoots better!

So . . . is the B&C a drop-in for a #1 or #3. Why didya hafta open up the bbl channel?

Here's my #1B. It has a pretty beat up buttstock and a cracked forend. I rechambered a .30-06 to .30 Gibbs. My first wildcat adventure. It's not exactly the ideal rifle for the rainforest here in S.E. Alaska. I like the new #1 stainless w/laminated stock.

My #1 in 7x57 did a number on a Georgia Whitetail last wekeend.

One shot of a 150g Sierra Gameking at 2780 fps was more than he could handle. grin...

Reloaderman, what caliber is your No3?

I just saw on an other thread that your No3 is a 30/40. Great caliber for a No3. A good buddy of mine had one once. It shot one hole groups at 100 yards with the following load.
Sierra 165 HPBT Gameking, 39.5 grains of IMR 3031.

My #3 is in 30-40 Krag, and it's a tack driver, even with cast bullets.
The B & C stock is a drop-in for a #1 with a sporter weight barrel, I had to open mine a little to accomadate the heavier #3 barrel.
