Had one of these a year or two back and sold it to fund another crazy scheme. Missed it, so found another. The seller said it was "sealed in the box in the warehouse" and would not give me a stock preview, so I had to cross my fingers. Well, let's just say someone at the Ruger factory decided that a bit of figure was appropriate for such a classic caliber. Hope to shoot her in the new couple of days. By the way, I mounted my go-to scope for big bores, an old steel El Paso Weaver K 2.5, and added the requisite Limbsaver. She's just over 9 1/4 pounds -- about right I think.

You're most welcome. 5744 sure adds some versatility to that fine caliber.

Have a Boddington version in 450/400 due in Thursday. Purchased it from another forum member since I am rich in 450/400 components after stock piling them for a double I purchased that ended up being returned.

Just curious, the factory Hornady loads were rather anemic at approximately 1,975 fps. Can the Ruger #1 be safetly pushed to 2,100 or 2,150 fps?

As far as the Limbsaver, do they make one prefit for the Ruger #1?

As to the lim saver they do make one profit for the #1 I've put one on four #1's

The Limbsaver prefit I got for mine needed the mounting holes moved up to mount it properly. I'm a little jealous of that G2S stock, mine looks like yours, on one side only, other side is kind of BORING!! I'm in the hurry up and wait mode for an expander to use some cast boolits in it. Guess I will have to go blast off some 400 Hornadys this weekend, so I can have some more cases emptied out.

Put the limbsaver on mine as well. Not a very good fit. Had to fill in and redrill the holes in the stock. Pad is slightly oversize for the Ruger.
It is functional, but on a scale of 1-10 would rate the pad fit about a 6.

Rockrat: Thanks. So far I have only shot some loads with 5744 and the Hornady .411 300-grain bullet -- very pleasant of course. But I have some 400-grain CEB solids loaded at full bore, and will report on their performance when I can get to the range.
