Re: Pix of your TC Encore rifles!?!?!?
WoW! I'm impressed. Well I'm going to be a new Encore owner shortly. I have a SS frame on order and I also ordered a VVCG Shilen SS match 26 in. barrel in 338 Remington Ultra Mag. I know that this gun will kick like a stomping mad mule so I'm having VVCG put a JP Muzzle break on it. I know it's going to look ugly, but I'm going for function, a long shooter. I'm also having VVCG put their scope mounts and Warne Rings, with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10.
I'll keep you all posted on how the project turns if you all like. But better yet, anyone else out there have a 338 Ultra mag Encore that they would like to share a story?

Here's my Encore; sorry for the background items. Factory heavy barrel in .223, with a fixed 12X Leupold. Accounted for quite a number of furry rodents on last year's prairie dog trip...

OK, and I can't help posting my "big game" pose shot either (yes, it is supposed to be a joke)...check out the hat sunburn line...ouch. Least I still have my head, which the prairie dog beside me cannot say...

All,

I got my VVCG 338 Rem Ultra Mag project almost together..........Still lacking a nice piece of glass. I do have photo's of it, but I'm lacking the savvy to posting a photo to the forum. OK.....One more time, how do I post a photo, plain language please. Thanks!

I have my own encore custom from E Arthur Brown and have put it together over the period of two years. I got a trigger job, a boyd boys laminate forend and butt, the barrel is a semi-varminter 26", the caliber is .257 roberts ackley imp. I topped it with a schmidt & bender 4-16x50 precision hunter. I cant post any picture though I dont have any yet. Oh and I am only 17.

You young whippersnapper, you...that scope alone will pay for half a month of college...

Just kidding, I think it's a worthy investment...

Troy,

Have often thought of going with an Encore by either VV or Bullberry. How light a barrel would I need to go with to get about 7.5 lbs with a scope? How well could I expect such a rig to shoot (group)?

Thanks,

John

A factory weight barrel and a 3-9x42 leupold should do you good at that weight range.

CK, I too have a .338 RUM barrel from Virgin Valley and I must say I was totally impressed with the accuracy I got from my first load. Under 1" 3 shot group with 225GR. Accubonds and H4831SC. I also loaded up some 225GR Triple Shocks but havent made it to the range yet. I was so impressed with these custom barrels I went ahead and ordered a 22-250 Improved and a 6.5-284 both in medium varmint just like my .338 RUM but I ordered those from Bullberry just to see whos I will like best. Next year Ill order either a 17 Mach IV or Tact. 20 from VVCG. Let me know how yours shoots and what youve loaded it with.

chuckduster,

Yes, the VVCG stuff is high quality in my book. The 243 WIN. barrel they sold is a out right tack driver. Here's a picture of a 5 shot group at 100 meters I had posted on another posting.

I haven't been able to work on my 338 RUM barrel as much as I like. The quick release Warne rings just don't do it for me. I've got a set of permanent rings on back order. Once they get here I'll let you know what kind of accuracy I get with it. I'll tell you one thing, the JP Muzzle break I had VVCG put on the 338 RUM barrel is sure a effective tool. This 338 RUM has the recoil of a light 308 off the bench with the JP Break on the end.

Not especially pretty with the plain wood but this .500 S&W is a real sledge hammer.

NOTE TO EVERYONE awhile back I was fire forming cases for my uncle and He had a thumb extender on the hammer and during or just from continual use the thumb part of the hammer started to seperate from the hammer itself. None the less I stopped fireforming. We sent it to TC and they said that they do not recomend thumb extenders or hammer extenders pick your word. So keep that in mind.
