Accurate Highwall
I got my C.Sharps 1885 yesterday. 20" octagon barrel in 30-40Krag.

I didnt have any good bullets so I just put some cartridges together with some 165 gn Remington bulkbullets and the last grains from an old N140 box, 2400 fps.

After lots of cleaning between shots I tried to shoot some groups. This three shot group measures 28 mm center to center, at 100 meters, thats 1,1 inch at 110 yards.

I was impressed since I'm not a very good shooter, I even had a great fiveshotgroup coming but I put the very last bullet a few inches to the right.

Today I had to test some more, so I pulled ten Norma Alaska bullets from some old 30-06 cartridges, and ten fmj's from some very old Garand ammo. And then came this:

It looks like only four shots but there is three in the lower left hole. Thats 19 mm center to center at 100 meter with 150 gn militarybullets at 2460 fps with the black sticky waterprofingstuff still on them.

I dont think I ever have shot this good with iron sights and it seems to be repeatable. I'll order Sierra matchkings tomorrow.

Good shooting 900 SS

I also received a C. Sharps in 22LR a few weeks back and after checking out various brands of rimfire ammo l found what it likes and it shoots good with their New Ideal Tang Sight and global front.

All that to say that l too am a satisfied C. Sharps Highwall customer and believe that they produce a quality single shot.

All the best and good shooting!! beer

Nice! I like those C-Sharps high walls.

I also like the Krag and would like to have a single-shot in that chambering or the improved version.

Can you tell me what the Across Flats dimensions of your 20" barrel are? At the breech and at the muzzle? Is it straight, a straight taper, or another contour?

Also, did what sights did you go with?

Thanks,
Steve

This is her, packhardened and all.

11 mm across the flats all the way. Front sight in target position, folds forward to blade for hunting.

Rear sights, diopter for targets and groups to brag of. That will come off for hunting and I'll use the rearsight on the barrel, I dont remember its name.

Beautiful. Thanks for posting the pictures (and the info). When you say 11mm, you mean across the length of one flat (side of the octagon), don't you? Looks thicker than that from one side of the octagon across the bore to the opposite side (maybe 1"?).

I like the sight setup, too. Especially that fold down front sight. I'm also thinking about a vernier rear, removed for hunting. I was considering the Smith Enterprises "flip up buckhorn to 03 Springfield style" aperature rear sight also, though.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes thats across one flat, total width is close to one inch maybe 24 mm. I'm having trouble getting groups better than three inches with the rear sight on the barrel. I'll try to mask the white mark on the rear and color the rear of the frontblade black.

Some sandbagging

I like them too, and the M1875 OLD RELIABLE too. C Sharps makes quality products!

One question,
how expensive was this C.Sharps in Norway and where you have it imported? In Germany it´s very difficult to get C.Sharps and Shiloh Sharps rifles. And 1885 High Walls made by C.Sharps are very rare and the standard prices begins at 2300.-€. Without any extra wishes.
I´m thinking allway about a .405WCF with 26" octagonal barrel.

If you will try an aperture front sight with a round target bullseye your groups will get significantly smaller.

Big Bore Fan, I imported it myself. C.Sharps sent it by US postal and I just sent the buying permit to the Norwegian postal. When I picked it up at the postoffice I paid Norwegian VAT.

You pay the price on their website plus any VAT or customs in your country. My gun has a few of extras. Considering the craftsmanship and labour in these guns the prices are very low. I really hope the rumor that they might close isnt true.

SR4759, can I get one with a classic look? If the groups get much smaller they will be hard to spot.

@900SS,
thanks for replay.
Hmmm....self importing. In Germany at the moment not really a good idea. At the moment, everything over a airgun, especial "small weapons" Roll Eyes are the evil.
I know, it´s possible, to do this, here in the country of madness, but too difficult.
I will be happy , in the next future, when we must not take all our guns to scrap. Mad

Sorry, but at the moment, I´m a little bit down, with this Nazi-like-green-we-save-the-world-government.

Have a nice day.
