You might remember I have been looking for awhile. I passed on a few new ones as the price was not to my liking.
I got a #1A in 7X57 mauser with a Leupold M8X4. Its in about 90% condition. I think I did prety well at 525.00
i alredy put a 2X7 VX2 on it but I think a 1.5X5 gloss would be about perfect.
the trigger pull is great. My digi cam is broke or I would do a picture. ! Ill get a new one soon.

Congratulations on the purchase of a great rifle! I got my used 1B in 280 Rem for exactly the same price a few years ago. You lucked out on the trigger...I had to replace mine with one with "real" adjustments. I've gotten my best groups with 7mm 139g and 154g Hornady interlocks. Let us know what works best for you.

I have a 223 Ruger #1 I got 3 years ago for $450 that was a return to the store.
It is my favorite gun to shoot.

I have a 7mmRM Ruger #1 I got 2 years ago at a gun show for $450.

If I could find a 7mm Mauser #1, or any other Mauser case head, with a Leupold for $550, I would buy it without hesitation.

I would be willing to buy one with no scope and rotten barrel for $550 if it fell in my lap.

I want to build a 6mmBR.

I have 3 #1's, 218 Bee, 22 K Hornet, and a 204 Ruger. I'm sure there will be more down the line. They are classics in the world of rifles.

I like them too !
i would realy like to try one of the new ones in 9.2X74 R. That would be a real versital rifle with a 250 grain noslers for for elk and the classic .286s for moose or plains game.

I love my #1's and my favorite is the 1A. thats the one I still don't have so I envy you.

The only No 1's I have are all No. 1V's as follows:

o 22-250 Rem
o 220 Swift
o 25-06 Rem

On the Swift comes from Ruger with a 26 inch barrel; the 22-250 and 25-06 come from the factory with 24 inch barrels. Strikes me as odd supposedly being the varmint model.

Well guys, I just added a used RSI in 7x57 to my battery of #1's. Ten days to wait, I hope it will shoot.

I went to the gunshow today looking for a #1 to rebarrel to 6mmBR.

I saw two used rifles private sale for $600 and $650 ask price in mint condition, but were magnum calibers.

I saw some Mauser case head #1 new rifles FFL sale for $900 with tax.

I had the money, but I am still hoping to find a used $475 or $575 #1 in 30-06, .243, etc.

I came home empty handed.

You don't need to get a std case head rifle to re-barrel. The ejector might need changing or modifying, but that's no big deal.

BTW, the only 7x57 1A I ever had didn't shoot well at all. I rebarreled it with a shilen #2 barrel in the same cal & it shot great. Back then, Shaw was making their barrels & they were hit or miss (no pun intended ).
I built myself one last year with a med wt. tapered oct barrel in 30/30 AI and love it.
Number 1's were instant classics the day they hit the streets IMO.

I have a 6BR #1 with about 300 rounds down the tube, and it SHOOTS. It is for sale and would save you a good bit of money vs building one.

Just curious, whose oct. barrel did you use? If you installed sights , what were they?

It's a wind river barrel. I used Lyman flat bottom front ramp & the ruger rib that I modified somewhat with a 5 post & screw in the middle and dovetailed for a flip up sight. Also did some stock/forend mods & welded an extension for setscrew on the forend hanger & put a screw on swivel on the barrel & another inletted into the buttstock. I'll see if I can get a pic of it. Shot @ 50 rods fire forming today. Amazing handling & acuracy with everything I've fed it so far. I basically use 300 Sav data & work up from there.

What is it with a 1A in 7x57? Why are they so hard to find? I've been trying to find a new one for awhile, got a tax refund coming and need to spend some of it B4 the wife buys some more Walmart stock.

Thanks, Herb. I'll use it hunting and on the sporting clays range so it's sort of on topic ). I had an M-38 before I went to vietnam & loved it and have wanted to get another ever since. But when I started tallying up all the stuff I didn't like about it, I found that the main thing I liked was the small, handy, open jeep & the look of it. On the 38, I didn't like the tranny, transfer case, engine, front joints, drum brakes, steering, etc etc.
What I wound up doing is taking a Suzuki Samurai frame & drive train & modifying it, moving the components around etc & found an old fiberglass body that I rebuilt & reinforced. All the vehicle components are rebuilt and it should weigh @ 400# less than the M-38 with a litle more HP with weber carb & thorley headers. It's about 95% finished. I plan to put WWII graphics on it. The "Jap Jeep" should be going by end of summer.

I went to the Puyallup gun show and found two good #1s:
1) Minty .270 for $675
2) Nice stainless 243 for $675

I only bought one.

I saw the 270 first, and dickered him down to $600 and got him to throw in a gun case.

I bought this to rebarrel to 6mmBR, but if it shoots sub moa in 270, I am going to have a hard time justifying pulling the barrel.

Congratulations! I believe you will like both the rifle and the caliber! I have one I got in 1976 ("Liberty Model"). It has proven extremely accurate, and it will deliver rather impressive ballistics for such a small cartrtidge!

There is a Ruger No. 1 group on Yahoo, which consists of both No.1 collectors and just shooters. It is worth joining the group just to read the posts by knowledgeable No. 1 fans, even if you don't care to post anything!
