TC Encore owners inside please!
Hi guys. I just picked up the frame for my Encore and went to install the hanger bar and forend but the 2 screws are missing to attach the forend. I have the ones for the hanger bar but not the forend. Does anyone know exactly what screws these are so I can hopefully go to the hardware store tomorrow to see if they have em. I doubt it but it is worth a try.

They look like 8's from checking them with my calipers (.160) and against some 8's that I have onhand. I think they are 40 threads per inch, they are finer than the 8x32's I have, but I don't have a thread gage with me. I think Contenders are 10x40.

I couldn't find any forend screws for my Contenders at any hardware stores around where I live, never have looked for my Encore. They had 32 thread per inch stock, but no 40's in screws that large. I finally ended up getting a set from Ed Kirkpatrick at a gunshow.

You won't find them at a hardware store. The gun industry is pretty much the only industry using 8-40 screws.

I figured they were pretty much a specialty item.

If you live in an area that has some machine shops all hope may not be lost. In my town there is a lot of machine shops and industrial industry. There is a hardware store in town that has any kind of bolt or screw you can imagin. When ever I get a new forend I take out the screws that came with it and pick up some 1" and 3/4" 8-40 stainless steel cap head screws. They have more meat around the hex hole so I can't warp the hex hole any. Look in indusrial catalogs if you can't find a local source. They beat the standard screws by miles.

My recollection is that they are 10-32s. And they are readily available here in SoCal in a chain of Hardware stores named Mcfadden-Dale Hardware. Any size, any head type.

I would like to offer the shooters at "California State Varmint Callers Association" Frangible Bullets to try. Log onto FrangibleBullets.Com and follow the link for sample bullets. Some "Seekers of the Red Mist" in WA & OR have used our bullets with effect on ground squirrls and have emailed me an amazing story about a land owner letting them shoot on his property and not others with conventional lead cored bullets. The offer of course stands for any shooters of rifles and handguns ................ Captain
