Break Down a Ruger Number 1?
Can you break down a Ruger Number 1 for traveling the way you can with a Merkel or a Blaser K95? I understand a falling block doesn't work the same way, but I wonder if it can be done.

In a word, no. The butt stock could be removed without too much drama, but I wouldn't want to do it very often.

There is a fellow in the north east that will convert a No. 1 to a break-down switch-barrel...There was a thread on 24 hr. Campfire about his work about a year or two ago (with a U-tube type vid.)...I just did a search in the single shot forum for break down and take down and came up with nothing...you might post your question over there..

Jaywalker, there is a home made sort of takedown method for single shots that I use some.

Essentially, you are making the butt stock easily detachable so that the rifle can be carried in a 32" case.

It doesn't sound like you were interested in that, but if you change you mind I will run down the modifications for you.

Thanks - maybe not yet, but I appreciate the offer. Right now I'm just looking for something different from the standard bolt action. I like the Blaser K95 and its easy breakdown capability, but I'm not sure that I want to spring for the full price of something like that yet.

I am very happy with my K 95 Stutzen in 308.
