223-rimfire adaptor??
Saw a reference to an adaptor case/bushing to shoot 22 rf in a 223 cal single shot, but can't find any such thing in Midway or Brownells. Anybody know of such a thing?

I've used one. It would peen the fireing pin. The connector that the fireing pin hits to transfer the blow to the rimfire shell is steel and too heavy. It would gradually make the fireing pin form a mushroom. Good for emergencys (?) but not for plinking. Best bet is just handload a .223 to reduced .22 mag levels I think. FNMauser

Considering the bore size differences tween rimfire and the .223, I can't see how they would be very accurate. Reduced loads would be the way to go....but I spose each rifle is enough different that it may work fine.

DPMS and Cabela's both sell adapters but there is NO accuracy Frowner

The twist and diameter is wrong and if you're shooting a gas auto you could foul your tubes (and nobody need fouled tubes

DPMS sells a .22lr upper (AR-15) complete with the correct diameter and twist. A lot more than a 10/22, but if you want it for practice...

I found the same about the accuracy, plus it was VERY labor intensive! Alot of work to reload and shoot again! thumbdown

I had one designed for the TC Contender with the switchable firing pins. The adapter looked like a steel .223 brass with a .22lr chamber where the primer should be. Very easy to use and reload, just remember to bring a piece of dowel rod to punch out the expended brass.

Accuracy very poor, I wouldn't bother with the whole undertaking again.

I have one of each in 22RF/223 and 22WMRF/223...and used them in a CZ527 American, to kill stock that had become hopelessly bogged in dams during the peak of our drought. Not a happy situation...

I bought the 22RF/223 to see what it would do, and it was hopeless... no accuracy, and all it did was foul the barrel with lead.

So, being mindful of bore dia difference, I tried the 22WMRF/223 version, still no accuracy, but at least it didn't foul the barrel!

As to accuracy, it was OK if you could put the muzzle against the animal's head, but nothing else.

As someone mentioned, it was a PITA to use, and having to carry all the little bits and pieces (don't drop the 'striker thingy' on anything other than a polished floor!!!), and as a result it became easier to simply use standard loads to do the job.

Absolutely no use, even for plinking... if our customs laws weren't so tight, I'd post them to you for nothing...

Don't bother!
