Current Ruger no 1 trigger replacements
Are there options cheaper than the Kepplinger? Hate to spend money reworking factory trigger and not have it where I want, so figure replacement is only viable option. Anyone have an old Moyer they would be willing to sell? Smiler

I have a #1S in 338 win mag tha had a horrible trigger. I took it to a good gunsmith, and had him smooth things out. Now about 3 lbs and very crisp. I don't remember the cost, but was much less than a custom trigger.

My gunsmith has not worked on #1s and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money and then not have it come out half decent. Read somewhere they weren't worth reworking and was better to just replace.

Have a look at the JARD Trigger, They come in different weights and are a 1 piece replacement.
When you order pick the trigger weight you want, they are cheaper than the Kepplinger (Which is no longer produced).
I have a No1 factory trigger that has been worked, it is very consistent at 2.75lbs.
I've also got 3 Kepplinger's, they are very good also, the only adjustment is the sear engagement.
Weight is determined by the sear spring used.
All required some degree of hand fitting and adjustment.
The Jard has 2 springs (Like the Factory Trigger) 1 is a sear spring (This determines most of the the weight and is the spring you choose when ordering) and the trigger spring, which adds to the overall weight.

jim kobe has done several #1 triggers for me and the end results will make you forget replacements (there is more to it than just the trigger)and it is a fraction of the price

Have a read of this article. A replacement trigger may not necessarily be the way to go.

My trigger was worked and it is now a crisp 3 1/2 pounds.

Anyway you may find the article interesting.

Thanks all. Dropped the Ruger off at the gunsmith asking him to work the trigger down to the 3.25lb range. Said it shouldn't be a problem....

A day at the gunsmith, $80 later and trigger pull down to a smooth 3.2 lbs. Definitely cheaper than a trigger replacement and I'm a happy camper!
Thanks.

I am starting to make a No. 1 from an action that I picked up this summer. It will be this winter's project.

My deer rifle is a Jack Haugh No. 1 that Jack did years ago. The factory trigger drove me nutz and, a few years ago, I finally ordered a Kepplinger. It works perfectly and looks good... the quality is obvious.

I read somewhere that Kepplinger had quit making triggers for the Rugers. This is not so. I ordered one from Brownells a few weeks ago. They were backordered but yesterday I got an email that my trigger had been shipped.

The rifle will be a fairly light varminter in .222 with a Unertl that I found recently. I have very little patience with lousy triggers and will be working hard to see how much accuracy I can squeeze out the the small rig. I'm now satisfied that I won't have to worry about trigger problems.

This is the Kepplinger trigger on my Jack Haugh No. 1. As you can see this rifle has been hunted with for many years.

I put Moyers triggers on mine. They're inexpensive and easy to install.

It's my understanding that the Kepplinger trigger and the Moyers trigger are no longer available. There is one or two alternative triggers available, I just can't think of their names at this time. There are a number of gunsmiths that can fix the post 1980 Ruger POS triggers.

Mick,

That was my understanding also re: the Kepplinger. However, Brownells did email me and said my Kepplinger had been shipped.

I don't have it in hand yet.

Dick,
I hope it shows up, let us know if it does. One of the replacement triggers that I couldn't think of is Jard Inc.

Has the finish quality improved. The last couple I got were extremely rough castings and I honestly had to spend too much time filing down and polishing to make them feel comfortable. Function was excellent.

My Kepplinger trigger arrived yesterday in the mail. It was in a small envelope that certainly didn't look like it had a $300.00 trigger in it.

It looks just like the old one on my .243 so there are no apparent changes.

The Kepplinger trigger doesn't take up much space in a shipping box. I wonder if the trigger you bought is old stock or if they are still being manufactured? I hope for the latter.

A look at the Moyers trigger for people who do not know what it looks like after a lot of work, they are nasty sand casts.

When I ordered it Brownell's said they were on backorder.

Sure enough, a month later I got the email saying it had been shipped.

FWIW the Kepplinger trigger arrived and is now in hand. They come in a little tiny package that certainly doesn't look like $300.00.
