Rethreading Low Wall Action
Hello Folks

My Low Wall action has a small (.825" ?) shank . . . but the two barrels I have are large shank (.885"). The action has an overall width of 1.20".

I know I can have the 'smith rethread the shanks of the barrels, but wonder if it might be more useful (in terms of future interchangability) to rethread the action ??

Is rethreading the action a risky procedure - in terms of the 'smith ruining what is an very rare action in these parts

One consideration is that one of the barrels I have is in 218 Bee, and there is NOT a reamer in this chambering in NZ - so its going to have to be perfectly timed to the action . . . .

Cheers - Foster

Most low walls have a deep scallop @ 12 o'clock on the receiver ring, making the ring fairly thin at that point, IMO maybe too thin to bear rethreading. A few low walls had round-top frames and these would be more suitable, but I agree with the previous poster about working on the least expensive part.

I'll bet you could rent any reamer you wanted from one of the US rental places. Might be worth a checkup.
