Just got a Kimber 8400 Montana in .338 win mag. I can chamber factory ammo but not my reloads, that work fine in my Rem.700 .338. What's up ? Thanks for the help.

Your Remy chamber is in all probibility a bit on the sloppy side.

Your current set up is probably not bumping the shoulder back enough

You FL die may not be resizing the case enough just ahead of the belt.

So do I have to screw my die in a bit further ?

If you have the die set up to just bump the shoulder back enough in one rifle then it is very possible that it is too long for the other. So first thing I would try is turning the die in a little at a time to see if you can get a case to chamber. If you do then the case will be a touch shorter than your 700 requires but still probably longer than factory.

I keep loads seperate between two rifles of the same caliber. If you plan to use the same loads and cases then set up for the shorter chamber but make sure that your pressure is save in both rifles by working up.

If your loads are hot in the 700 or it does have a loose chamber then as 4759 said your die might not be resizing in front of the belt. I would try moving the shoulder back first. Or take a marker and coat a case and see where it is hitting on the Kimber.

Thanks Ramrod! I just turned it in a bit. Now they chamber no problem. I just got the Kimber and will sell the Rem. so my die can just stay there. Now to get some A-Frames loaded up and off to the range in the am. Thanks again for the help.

My best guess would be to find a FL sizer and cut it off below the shoulder to size the case head. After sizing the head you might have to FL size the case with a normal die - but do not push the shoulder back.

I had the same problem with a Kimber in .300 WSM, except it would not load some FACTORY ammunition. My reloads easily fed in my Browning A-Bolt .300 WSM. I had to switch dies to be able to chamber my reloads in the Kimber. BTW, the Kimber maxed at one full grain less powder than the Browning and the A-Bolt will shoot honest 3-shot 1/2 inch groups. The Kimber? 1 to 1 1/4" is the best it has ever done. Might want to shoot the Remmy and the Kimber before you decide which one to sell... Good luck.

Ditto on what MK160 said. Shoot it before you sell the Remington. I have seen quite a few Kimbers in our shop that just would not shoot even after going back to Kimber as many as three times. I have had to rebarrel 5 or 6 to get them to shoot. All of them with very low round count through them.

I have had the same problem with my 300WM Kimber Montana 8400. I now run every round I intend to shoot through the chamber.

My fine Rolling Block repro is designed to take Remington brass apparently the smallest .It's done that way for better accuracy.
