Charles_Helm"Limited Edition" Pre-64 Model 70?
Anyone heard of one of these?19 December 2006, 09:36
GSP7There were some special m70s classic with Fajen stocks that had gold inlay on the metal. Didnt look like that though and that seller doesn't sound like he knows what he is selling . Thats looks like a post 64 push feed , cant tell by the crappy pics. Stock style looks push feed.

Charles_HelmThis is one of those cases where better pictures might be both a blessing and a curse! As you say, you would definitely want to be sure what the action was before bidding. But where do you dispose of the stock?

ElCaballeroPictures for auctions never cease to amaze me. I will admit I have taken some crappy pictures but I atleast crop out my messy house.

Bingo....I remember someone running a special....was it Davidsons?...someone that bought barreled actions and had them custom stocked by Fajens.....tiger maple just like the one in the photo.....but it was my memory (questionalbe I know) that this was a post 64 offer...like 1980s or after!

GSP7Vapo , The fajen ones ive seen were made of english walnut and just a nice open grip classic pattern. That looks like a '60-'70 jetsons style, rollover cheek, that pointy flared grip cap and stamped xlt checkering seen on the push feeds

Charles_HelmI sent a message asking if he had an action close-up to show the extractor.

mhoAm I correct in observing that the caliber is not listed in the auction??

HeadacheCharles_Helm,
Winchester (USRAC) produced this model about eight to ten years ago. The stocks where produced by Fajen. I'm not sure about the quantity built, by onethousand sounds about right. They are CRF systems.

Well now that looks much better!

Charles_HelmI do not see the caliber listing either. So it sounds like if it is a CRF it is likely a classic and not a pre-64. The serial number should start with a G if that is the case, shouldn't it?

Thank you sir.
Sounds like discretion may be the better part of valor here!

Charles_HelmWow! Someone did a "Buy it Now" for $700.
$700 for a barreled action and (my opinion) unappealing stock.
Fess up if you saw my post and decided to buy it -- I may be due an advertising commission!
He did add better pictures after I asked about the extractor, and someone must have asked the caliber as he added that as well.
Personally I would rather start with a bare pre-64 action for a bit less.

CustomstoxI met Larry Potterfield (Midway and Reinhardt Fajen) at the ACGG show about 10 years ago. He had the left over stocks from the production that he did for Winchester. They were not that stock design, not even close to it. They were a classic design and of English walnut. He was selling the left overs at the show. Winchester had weeded out the lower grade stocks and the higher grade stocks. He was asking $200 for the high grade ones. They were very attractive but the inletting was cut a bit large so you did not have to worry about making any gaps, they were already there.

LJSWinchester had some model 70s made up with Fajen maple stocks. I have seen them in 06, 7MM Rem Mag, and 300 Win Mag. An 06 here recently sold quickly for $850. About the same time Winchester made up some Model 52s with the Fajen maple stocks also. For whatever the reason the checkered areas were stained black and are very strange looking.

M1TankerI saw these a couple times before. I believe they were made for a specific distributor. Sportsmans Warehouse in Salt Lake City had several around 1997 in several calibers. There was also a run of 52's with the same stock offered at the same time. Of the dozen or so that were on display some had wood lke the one in the pic, but a few had some truly amazing figured maple. They were about twive the price of the normal models at that time.

tom ga hunterMy hunting partner actually has 1 in 30'06 they were made in 270, 7 rem mag, '06 & 300 win mag. Although most of you don't like the stock style, they are much like our favorite part of women --looks bad feels good. The stock is the old Fajen Aristocrat model, I 4 in H&R Ultra 300's & they are the only wood stock rifles I hunt with.

CustomstoxBill,That well may have been the case. I always assumed when Potterfield said they built them for Winchester that is was a rifle they were offering to the public. In hindsight, I never say any english stocked model 70's offered for sale at that time.
