It's extremely difficult to imagine where one might fit the current market....there's folks from A to Z out there now.....competition must be terrific in that business.

Yes, there are a bunch of companies out there making barrels, but just try to get one inside of 6 weeks from one of the better ones (Krieger, Lilja, etc.).

Lead time for most machined parts is 4 to 6 weeks.
That the lead time for a rifle barrel is that short is amazing considering the quality of some of the top end barrels.

Too bad I'm not independently wealthy....

I'm afraid I'd have to buy this just to play around with it in retirement.

I understand that machine can be used for more than just making barrels. It can be used to make actions as well!!!

My guess is one of the Name brand barrel makers will snatch it up for a back up.

Gun drill's are not cheap or easy to find.
Plus the rifler,hydraulics,and broaches.
Not a bad deal really.
Wish I had the funds and space.

Seller could turn you on to his client's as well

22wrf, how would a gun drill or button puller make an action?

Broaching out the raceways is my only guess.

Well, you start with the bolt bore.....

Don,
I guess you could make tooling to broach them on the button machine. It would be a lot cheaper to make a jig and do it on an inexpensive press. That is the easy part of making a receiver. I think the tools would be good extras for an existing barrel shop. The tooling is probably not worth much. I believe you are buying the gun drill and button puller. You can get a very good Pratt&Whitney machine for $15,000 and they are the Caddilac.

Rem721,
I could use a hand drill also.

Be my guest. I'd prefer to start with something a little straighter.

If you have seen some of the barrels that I have chambered, you wouldn't want a deep hole gun drill doing it either. I'm sorry. I was being a smart ass. These are specialized machines and only have value as what they have been used for and nothing else.

It can be used to make the long hole or bolt bore or whatever its called that the bolt rides in. I know of at least one action maker who uses his similar machine for that purpose.

We need someone with equipment like
this to specialize in bigbores,
550 and up. When it comes to getting
600NE, 700, 12ga, 4bore etc, in any
decent time frame, it is the biggest
pain in the ass in the gun realm.
If I had it that is all it would do,
is big bores.Ed.
