Duane Wiebe (CG&R)My restored 30 Luger
I've wanted a 6 inch 30 Luger for years and the pistol caught my eye at a shop out of state during a short vacation. I decided to pass, it was kinda spendy and a bit on the rough side..
Guess my lust showed and my daughter and grandsons explained the situation to the shop owner. Arrangements were made without my knowledge until they lured me back to the shop and...it was mine!
I've done a number of Luger restorations in years past, so mostly knew the ropes. All hand polished to a worn 240 grit...leave obvious tool marks as is and don't flatten stamped lettering. Careful rust bluing and strawing of applicable parts. The hard part was replacing the barrel....just a bit too worn...couldn't help myself! Used a Kreiger blank because it had the original type 4 groove bore.
Jim Wisner was kind enough to loan me a reamer for the job.
New Barrel in process

Awesome family, and super nice job; as expected from the top craftsman in the country. World.

NormanConquestVERY NICE, + yes those are beautiful pistols. What a treat for your daughter + grandkids to do that for you. They will remember that forever!

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)AR folks were soooo helpful in finding ammo. Now have 300 rounds. That should be plenty unless my grandsons get ahold of it !
I ran a clip thru the gun to make sure everything functioned perfectly on this 100 yean old old beauty...Wasn't disappointed!

Uncle GrinchVery nice. Is it true the only screws are the grip panel screws?

NormanConquestThat is true with the C-96 (broomhandle) Mauser as well.

Peter ConnanVery nice job!
With a Krieger barrel that would probably out-shoot just about any original?

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)WEll...A few rounds will be put through it from time to time, but I don't have plans to shoot any competition.
But yes, the old barrel was pretty badly pitted.
As to the grips...yes the one screw at the bottom of the grip holds the panel from falling off, but there is close inletting int o the frame as well as undercut at the top...pretty secure
