new_guyM 70 Bottom Metal Question...Blackburn, SME, Sunny Hill
I can't find a photo of Model 70 bottom metal from Blackburn, SME or Sunny Hill
Do any of them make integral magazine boxes (like the 98), or do they all use the factory magazine box?

new_guyThanks, Rich. I believe that's how the SH is done too. Don't know about SME's.

Does it come both ways? In my searching here, I've found refrences to cutting 1/8" off of the factory magazine box for the SH.

gunmakerAFAIK, the Dakota has a pocket shelf milled into the rails to locate the mag box. The Blackburn does not. The mag cutout in the stock needs to be perfect to align the box with the floormetal. This allows the Blackburn to employ a narrower floorplate and slimmer stock line.

I think that would be very cartridge specific and could open a can of worms that's been left in the back of your truck all summer. Even from standard to an improved case could make slimming it work or not.

I think the 1/8" comes off the bottom of the mag box if I remember correctly. I have a SH drop box now for a Classic M70 in 400 H&H. When I put the two together, it is apparent the original mag box needs to be shortened because the screws they send along with it are not long enough.

new_guySo the SH M70 pieces James has are one piece with integral box.
The SH M70 Jim has is 2 piece.
I guess I'll have to call them on Monday and see what they are currently producing.

Yes, two piece meaning the bottom metal and the original mag box

gunmakerI think the SH pre64 stuff has the integral box and the new ones may not.

Check Sound Metal Products:
