<Swamp-Man>New Barrel?
I have a Remington Gamemaster 760 pump in a 223 caliber. The barrel has had too many full metal jackets fired through it by the previos owner. Can this gun be fitted with a new barrel and can any good gunsmith do the job?

gophershooterHave you tried giving it a thorough cleaning with something like Wipeout or other good bore cleaner?

<Swamp-Man>this barrel is totally beyond repair from what a good cleaning will do. It is almost a smooth bore when looking inside it.The previos owner shot probaly close to 1500 rounds of military full metal jackets through it.

I think you would probably have to send the gun back to the factory to have it re-barreled. The chamber on the 760 is part in the action and part in the barrel. It is almost impossible to find a smith that will even look at one of them. But this does not make them a POS as I own 5 of them in different calibers.

m7001500 rounds shouldn't be a problem. That's not exactly high milage for most barrels.

<JBelk>Swamp man---
1500 rounds of military ammo might have broken it in some, but if it's actually worn out it was done with a cleaning rod. I hope you didn't pay much for it.
There're usually used barrels available. They have to be installed by a gunsmith so he can check headspace. I've never seen one out of spec but if it was it could be (very) hazardous.

Bill LeeperThe 760s can be rebarreled. The barrel threads into the barrel extension. It is best if the gunsmith is familiar with the job of course. Regards, Bill.
