Finishing inside of stock
I’m pretty close to done restocking a left hand Winchester 30-06. I’m thinking about using Minwax Antique oil for the finish.

But what should I use for the inside of the stock (barrel channel, magazine area, etc)? Use the minwax antique oil all over or perhaps a polyurethane on the inside?

I always finish the inside just as the outside. Not on glass bedding though.

I use Marine spar varnish. Its water proof.

If you want to use poly on the inletting, I'd thin it a bit so it penetrates. On the outside, I like Permalyn Sealer 'wet sanded' in to fill the pores and then Pro Custom Oil for finish.

glass bed the inletting iwth a paint coat of thinnned clear liquid epoxy bedding compound like Brownells, after inletting is complete, and bolt it down in the wood.. Really looks great if done properly, thin it, heat the wood and epoxy with a hair dryer, and you won't have gaps or bubbles. It will even pick up a serial no. or such..looks like shiny raw wood..Ive done this on a number of rifles, Dennis Olson showed me how..

Good tip on the epoxy bedding. What do you thin it with? Thanks.

Larry,
I had some Epoxy paint thinner given to me by Tony BArnes, but any paint thinner would do, and Ive used brownells red box glass and it heated up thin enough that the inletting looked like gloss finished wood, with it like that, I bolted it up squeezing all excess out, I did that on the last two stock I made on big bores, may have a picture I can send to your email, can't post pics on AR too old and too lazey to learn. send me your email if interested..
