Covert a leftie Savage RUM to 375???

My southpaw son may be making a trip with me in about 2 years. He has a Savage 111 in 300 RUM that holds and feeds 375 H&H. Does anyone know if Savage opens the rails to feed the RUMs? If I rebarrel to 375 H&H will the rounds stay in the magazine when we are bouncing around?
I could skip the worry and rebarrel to 375 RUM, but then we could not trade ammo.
