LabmanRem Woodsmaster 740 question
A friend of mine just purchased an older Rem. 30/06. The receiver is clearly labeled as a Woodsmaster Model 740. This rifle however, is not a semi automatic. It's a pump gun. Other than the writing and model designation on the receiver it's identical to the older Model 760 pump rifles. This particular model has the older diamond shaped cut checkering. Anyone ever heard of a Model 740 pump gun? I'm thinking it's a factory screw up. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

pdhntr1Tom,
It has been converted to the pump.
Research Remington 740 conversions and you will find the information.

LabmanThanks for the info. That certainly clears things up. I keep learning new things from this site. This gun should fit nicely into my friends collection since he also owns a Browning A-5 20 gauge that is labeled "sweet sixteen."

LongshotFind a Remington maked made in Madison, NC instead of Ilion NY. Several hundred got out and Remington has been trying to get them back ever since.
