Von GruffI built a 6.5 Grendel Max. Lengthened the mag to allow cartridge length of 2.405 with clearance and shoot a 123gn bullet (A Max or SST) at 2700fps from 21 in barrel. Kills very well. Great little hill rifle.
From left - 6.5x39, the factory 6.5 Grendel and my 6.5 Grendel Max on the right at 2.405 coal with the 123gn A Max

arkypeteI think my next rifle will be made on the Mini Mauser action.
I want to use the 5.56 case expanded to 257 caliber
This would be a cast bullet gun using 100 grain cast bullets.

N E 450 No27mm TCU [Thompson Center Ugalde].
It is a 223 case necked up to take a 7mm bullet. I had one in a Contender handgun once. It was very accurate, powerful enough for large varmints, deer, and antelope if shots are placed carefully.

fla3006The 6x45 or 6x47 are great rounds for small actions like the Mini Mk X or Sako L461

StonecreekI have one rebarreled to .221 Fireball. It is one of my very most favorite prairie dog rifles.
I have another that I intend to rebarrel to .20 Vartarg (.204 bullet in a Fireball case).
The factory triggers, even though adjustable, seem incorrigible. I replaced the one on the Fireball with a Sako trigger. I'll either use a Sako trigger or a Timney on the next project.

LesBrooksMake the perfect PD rifle. 204 Ruger I have posted at the top of the forum my 204 for all to see. It is a flat shooting rifle out to 500 yds. Past 500 yds I could miss with the 220 Swift just a well as the 204. When shooting longer range it is more on reading the wind. Small calibers make less noise and burn less powder.
A .204 would be nice for the needs decribed. I went with a fast twist .223 barrel on mine. I think it makes the rifle a little more versitle.
Those little Mini Mausers are fun rifles.
