Hello friends i've got a small problem i need some advice.The problem is i bought a ruger new model black .30 carbine revolver.I'm a ruger fan but this is the worst out of box gun i've ever seen.I plan on sending it out this spring to get accurized to acceptable lvl's.My question is this what will or can the gunsmith do to accurize the revolver.I have a gunsmith i trust that i will send it to even though he is a little slow.He did an execlent job converting my colt to a 45super. any help is appreciated thnx in advance

A gunsmith could cut new bolt slots to make sure the cylinder bore and the barrel line up as true as possible and then make a new wider bolt...I did this to my dan wesson...the cylinder were out by a few thousands if I remember right....I also used the info when I made a new cylinder in 256 win mag for the gun.....how sloppy the yoke and crane are can have an effect on accurracy...I made them from scratch for my DW as well....he could make sure all the bores in the cylinder are the same size for the bullets being used....he could make sure the cylinder face is square and clean up the forcing cone, and make sure it is not so long that the bullet could be in a situation that it is neither supported by the cylinder nor the barrel( usually not likely )....As i remember the 30 cal carbine has short bullets loaded in it for the dia.....good luck...bob

It depends entirely on what's wrong with it.

With Rugers the possibilities are numerous.

"Choked" barrels under the threads, off center cone, out of time cylinder holes, locking notches in the wrong place, base pin holes are crooked, out of square breech face, wrong diameter throats, crooked receiver threads, pawl too long/locking latch too loose, etc.

One of the best revolver builders ever on the planet says he returns 11 of 12 Rugers as unsalvageable, but he only does perfect work and won't do one without it ALL being right.
