TGetzenHow much can you shim a scope base?
Or I guess the corollary is, how much can you lap the rings, since I really don't want shims?
After getting the rear bridge recontoured and smoothed to my liking, the calipers measure 1.550" from the flat receiver bottom to the bottom [recess] of the Talley base up front, and 1.540" for the rear. I don't want to take any more off the front ring, since I like the BRNO / C.S.S.T. insignia and want to keep it.
Is .010" something I can correct with ring lapping?
Thx,
Todd

<G.Malmborg>Todd,
Though reaming would probably produce a more rapid result, .010 isn't out of the question.

BTW, I just sent you a PM.

<JBelk>Todd--
I'd put a .010 shim under the rear base and then lap to finish.
You could lap until the rings were smooth and straight but you'd still have .010 tilt of the scope to the bore line if you don't shim.
......or you could cut .010 off the bottom of the front mount.

SSTOf course, Jack is right. Shimming sounds like the simplest option. Jack could tell you what he uses for shims, but a make-shift shim can also be cut to size quite easily from an aluminum can.
