I just got a Stevens model 200 and need to find rings and mounts. Can anyone tell me if it is the same as the Savage model 10? I can't find the Stevens model 200 in any charts. Is a one piece mount better than a two piece?

According to Weaver, they are the same: Both front and rear use their 46 base.

If I may make a recommendation, I always select the 46 and 402. The 402 is an extention base and allows for the use of shorter tubed scopes. The objective lens bell (front) on some scopes have a long taper that may prevent the use of a 46 base used front and rear

Rings are pretty much a personal choice.

Some variables include the type of scope you choose (A 40-50 mm objective lens will more than likely require a higher scope ring than a 32 mm). There are aluminum and steel bases and rings available. Weight and caliber may factor on the decision here. A heavier recoiling caliber may require a heavier set of rings and a stronger bases. Lots to choose from.

As a point of reference, I had been using Weaver steel bases and their Tip-off (steel) rings for years on calibers up to the .30-06. They have been a mainstay on the market for centurys (an exageration, but you get the point.) On a .300 H&H and .338 Win mag I use Leupold dove tail bases and rings. Heavier than the Weavers and much more expensive.

Recently, however, I have used several sets of Leupold Rifleman (aluminum) rings with Weaver steel bases and have been quite satisfied. I tried the Riflemans because of a scope height issue I had on a NEF Handi Rifle. Since that time, Savage introduced the Stevens 200 and I've been using the Weaver/Rifleman combination on those rifles since.

One piece bases are generally stronger due to construction. Again, some circumstances may warrant them, while other may not. I suggest doing some research on the 'net and/or contacting a couple manufacturers and get their thoughts for your particular application.

Thanks and great post, I appreciate the info. I am putting together a 22-250 and leaning toward the Nikon Monach 5-20x44. I assume the use of some medium height rings may be in order. A call to the manufacturer that I choose should resolve that assumption. From what I gather the Savage model 10 short action is what I should be looking for.

I'd consider getting the Weaver 1-piece (#48338), it will give more options with the location of the rings. The Nikons I own have a elongated front bell that makes mounting difficult without at least a reversible front mount. Pic of Weaver mount:
