rootbeerbig scopes
Has anybody ever tried one of those mongo ATN scopes, like the 8-24X75? Retail is $700; saw its little brother 6-18X55 on ebay for about $450. Tennis, anyone?
Everything that I have read has been negative on the ATN.
If your going to spend that kinda money , buy the Leupold 6.5-20x 50mm ao, or spend more and buy the LR model with 30mm tube and side focus.

Ol` JoeI don`t shoot at the extended ranges some here do, and I`ve found my 4X16 Burris shows all the mirage and target I want to see. I never felt the need to try a bigger one but I`m sure you`ll get a few replies from those that do.

rootbeerThanks, GSP. I found some forum somewhere about scopes and some guy really ripped the big ATN a new one. He said they suck and not to pay more than $50 for the top model. I emailed ATN and asked if they'd gotten a bad batch a few months back; they replied in the negative and stated that they had only a 3% warranty repair rate, which to me is kind of high(?). Having such a huge scope on my gun would make up for physical deficiencies elsewhere (heh heh heh), but I think I'll keep looking. My action and barrel are SS; I really want an SS scope and ring set, but these are proving hard to find. I also want a scope of very large power, something like 8-32 or 10-40 in a big objective, like 50mm. Building my first gun is proving to be a little more challenging than I anticipated, but I am enjoying it. It is good to be single with no kids...

Ol` Joerootbeer, If you`re determined to go with a large high power scope take a look at the Niteforce line. I have a couple buddies that swear by them. I personally feel they are a bit heavy and too big but the quality and optics are very good.

rootbeerWhat about the Shepherd scopes with the dual reticle system? Only about $600.

KevinNYI'll second Ol' Joe on the Nightforce, probably the best scope made today. Army Marksmanship Unit has been using them and are impressed. If you just want a stainless finish then go to E-Bay and buy a used Leupold and send it to these guys for refinishing, they are reccomended by Leupold,
