It's all the same; epoxy with something mixed in; fiberglass, metal, carbon fiber. I never buy the "kits" as they sell you useless stuff like tongue depressors and release agent. Just buy the epoxy material (acraglas gel) and use paste wax for release agent; has worked for me for many years now.

What about the 2 part epoxy in a tube, Its clear.
I have done a couple bedding jobs and they were less than what I thought they should have been.
I am ready to try it again and any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks Dave

I have made bedding compound from expoxy and mix it with powdered fiberglas, or carbon fiber strands, chopped. They sell powdered aluminum and steel that you can put in it too. I like to dye it brown though and brownells sells that. I always liked the micro-bed in tubes but they quit making it. I use Acraglas gel mostly as it is stiff and stays in place.

A chemist fellow told me once that fast cure expoxies are not as strong as the long cure formulas.

Yep, and I go to the source and save money.

I have switched to Devcon 10110 and like it better than anything else I have tried.
My .02 cents worth. Big Grin

Why would you try something from this outfit when you could buy the good stuff from Brownell's. The gel is great and it works!

I use a lot of Pro-bed 2000, which works great, from Charlie Robertson at Score-High Gunsmithing, but he's a friend of mine. I also use Acra-glas Gel for bedding and regular Acra-glas for other things.

I swore off Probed 2000 last year

Never Never Never again

Accraglass gell is the best but to be honest the last 3 I've used long cure JB Weld

Hi, thanks Jim. Its The buzz word (bedrock) that got me, sounds like a rock solid bedding job. Some time its all about the hype.
I ordered the Accuglas Gel.
Would you use pillars as well?
Thanks Dave

dpcd
Yes, do not use quick set epoxy.
Pillars? I only install them if the customer wants them. On hunters, I don't.

I have some Acra-Glas Jell that i have had some time like 15 years.

Is it still good to go as long as the mixture hardens?

Challenge your limits

Yes, but it might have turned to sugar, particularly the white part. Put it into your microwave for just a few seconds and it will turn back into jelly. Do not use it in the granular state.

The five minute epoxies tend to shrink more than the longer curing epoxy. Fillers may help reduce this shrinkage.

I've used the bedrock before. Bought some when it was on sale for $5 for the big tub of it from midway. Works like any other epoxy bedding I have tried.

Fast epoxy ....On a number of knife making forumes there have been serious experiments with epoxies. They all conclude that the fast setting epoxies have shorter shelf life, shorter working life ,lower strength .These are all the 5 and 10 min epoxies. Don't use them for anything !!
West System Marine epoxies ,Acraglas , rate highly in these tests.
