Which synthetic stock for my 375HH?
I want to get a synthetic stock for my M70 Safari Express. I really like how the wood stock treats me & I want to duplicate that. Anyone tried the McMillan Supergrade? Would that be a close fit to what I have. Suggestions please!

I haven't used that exact stock but I used another model 70 McMillan stock and it was the best synthetic stock I ever put on a rifle.

There stocks fit well.

The Mcmillian supergrade stock is a copy of the older supergrade stock, not the new ones that were designed by David Miller. About a year ago I e-mailed mcmillian asking about that stock. I wanted to know if it was a copy of the old or new Miller designed stock. I got a kind of nasty reply from Kelly Mcmillian saying that they didn't know winchester had changed the design of the stock and would NEVER duplicate a stock designed by David Miller. A Rimrock now resides on my rifle.

Boltman, your experience with Kelly McMillan is not unique. He is one of the biggest jerks in the industry.

Puddle,
I would suggest going to their site and looking at the internet specials section. They generally have many of the Winchester styles listed and they can be shipped right away as opposed to 5 or 6 months to have one made.

Very weird. I've never seen a McMillan stock so I called them to discuss the supergrade. The lady insisted she could help me but could provide no details and repeatedly told me to visit the web site. She never offered to get someone who could discuss my needs with me. Is this the way to sell $300 - $500 worth of stock? Not from my wallet.

Public relations certainly is not the order of the day at McMillan, eh?!

I have communicated with them via email after voice calls left me a bit frustrated.

I did end up using their supergrade synthetic on my pre-64 M-70 .375 H&H at the suggestion of Dale Storey. He did the bedding and such.

The process is slow, however, I have not regretted my purchase at all. The stock is simply wonderful.... for me anyway! I can get on the irons easily as well as a scope in low rings.

I also have a McMillan on a highly customised Volquartsen/Ruger 10/22 that I wouldn't trade for anything.

The folks at McMillan are a pain in the arse, but they do produce a damned fine product, in my opinion.

Best of luck to you.

Puddle,
A couple years ago I had some NIB Mark X actions turned into 7mm RMs for my kids. I had a Brown stock already and had examined a number of others. My 'smith was impressed with the Rimrock, "If they do half of the work they show in their cut-aways, this is the one." The design is well done with just the right amount of castoff. I realize they're small bores, but the recoil with 175 gr/maximum loads is less than my 10 pound .243 coyote rifle!

I think the best way to inlet a Rimrock is on a milling machine, so you may be better off having them do the work if you need a special contour. Our stocks were built just before the company changed hands and moved to the East Coast, BTW. I'm having a .330 Dakota built right now - on a Rimrock.

Thanks for the tip Kitchen. I've requested a catalog from Rimrock.

I'll be looking at Rimrock from now on. I ordered 5 stocks from McMillan at one time and they treated me like trash. No more.
