<Jordan>Sako oil stock finish: What is the recipe??
Sako used to finish its varmint stocks [semi-beaver-tail foreend] with a rich, flat oil finish. Does anyone know the recipe? It appears to be stain as well as some sort of oil finish. I need to touch up a Sako varminter stock and I'd like to find the original recipe.
Thanks,
Jordan

KurtCYears ago I talked with a fellow who used to do the Sako repairs for Stoeger. He said that it was a proprietary finish that no one new the secret to.
The closest thing I know of is the Minwax gel stains/finishes. As I recall they came in both a red oak and a golden oak, depending on which color your Sako is. They work great for touch ups. I used to have about a half dozen of the Mannlichers.
