Will a Rem. 700 barrel thread into a Rem. 788 receiver?

A friend wants to know.

Dear Recoil,
A 700 barrel is too big for the 788. The 700 has a 1.050--16V TPI and the 788s have a 1.00--20 V TPI. The shanks are longer on the 788 too at 1.525 for the 30/30 and perhaps the others like the 222 and 308s [cna`t remember]against the .885 of the 700s. I have taken 700 barrels and put them on 788s but it requires lathe work.
