I see no reason to use anything other than a Lapour safety for this application.

I like Ed Lapour's safeties and have one on a rifle that I gave to my son, but they are not currently available. Ed says maybe next spring, so the Gentry is the only othe choice I can find.

I've used the gentry a few times, but prefer the Chapman. Two position side swing, the one for the M98 also fits the 03. The jig is about 50 bucks and works for both the Mauser and the Springfield, comes with good instructions as well. Safety lever itself is under $30. I'll look for pics, I've done 2 on '03s and six or seven on 98s. They blue decently, but I like to carbourize them at 1200 or so and quenching in the nastiest motor oil I can find, then leave it for a day or so soaking in diesel. Wears much better.
