CRUSHERIT IS LONGER THAN A WELL ROPE
IT IS LOUDER THAN HELL HOUNDS
IT LOOKS LIKE A STINGER PIPE FROM A VW BUSS
but it does work rather nicely.

BuglemintodayI like the one on my stainless stalker. Makes the .338winmag feel like a .243, and that particular gun is very accurate as well

CustomstoxA rifle barrel vibrates as the bullet travels down the bore. The oscillation of the barrel has positions where it is basically changing directions or at least the barrel muzzle is moving slower. By tuning the barrel so the bullet leaves at one of those null positions, you are in a position to have smaller groups. When you change ammunition, you have to retune your barrel by firing and noting the improvement on target.

You can obtain the same results by installing a threaded sleeve to adjust the nodes that would look nicer and without all the noise.

Several years ago a buddy of mine who belongs to quite a large hunting party asked me to develop some loads for some of their rifles and then reload for them on a year to year basis. Three of the rifles were BOSS equiped, a 30-06, 7mm mag and a 300 WM.
I was impressed with the system in that I could tune every load to get the first two bullets touching. The third bullet would be about a half inch from the other two and successive bullets would be scattered around, but not exceeding one and a quarter inches at 100 yards. This was shooting fairly quickly and the barrel was heating and affecting the groups. Once the barrel cooled the first two would be touching again.
If I was to use one for hunting I think I would invest in some hearing protection that lets you hear normally, but electronically reduces the blast to the ear. I accidentally set one off without hearing protection and still remember quite vividly it was a painfull experience.

CustomstoxWestpac, couldnt you get a boss front end that did not have the holes in it? I heard that you could get the same results taping lead strips to your barrel although I have never run into anyone who has done it.

I have a Browning A-bolt in 7RM with the BOSS. The advantage is that you can work up a load to max pressure then adjust the BOSS to tighten your groups without adjusting powder. This way you can maintain max velocity for any given round and still be accurate.
The disadvantage is noise. It's just too damn loud for hunting. You also loose 2" of barrel, so a 24" bbl is actually 22" plus the BOSS (for a total of 24"). This is a problem for magnum calibers that use slower burning powders. The theoretical gain in using a max load is offset by the incomplete burning of powder.
Browning does make a non-ported BOSS but I haven't tried using one. Instead I'm going to build a couple Mausers and retire the A-bolt while my hearing is still intact.
