<Bruce Gordon>Action Screw question
My newest Remington Model 700 rifle has the allen head screws holding the action to the stock. I really like the allen head screws much better than the older slotted screws so I called the local gun shop that is also a Remington certified gunsmith shop to see about getting a pair to install on my older model 700. They wanted $7 each for the screws!!!
Maybe there is something I am missing out on, but I would expect those screws to be maybe a buck or two. Does anybody know where I can buy some for a reasonable price? Or at least tell me what makes them worth $7.

<Bruce Gordon>Wow, they are $4 from Brownell. Better than the gun shop but still a bit pricey. Oh well, if guns were cheap it would just leave my wife more money to spend on shopping.

D HumbargerYou can buy a bag of (20 I think) blank screws from Brownells pretty cheap & make your own.

RogerKI replaced every screw on every Model 70 I have with the allen head type from Brownells. Just one caution. Make sure the front screw doesn't go all the way through. Grind it down. I had one go through to the point where it touched the lug enough to push it up. All kinds of kinky things happned to my groups before I discovered the problem. I found the problem when I closed the bolt slowly and detected a slight resistence. I ground the bolt down and that fixed my accuracy problem.
