Also - how long can you leave a rifle "in the white? If you have the metalwork done on a rifle, and then have it sent to another person that just does stocks - is it left in the white for the months that it takes to have the stock made and then rust blued? Thanks - Jeff

$150 to $300 seems to be the range on rust blue.

You can leave a gun in the white indefinitly........ I've worn out a chrome moly barrel without ever bluing it.

The rifle's usually polished to about 400 grit for stocking it, then any engraving, case making, etc. is done, then all the metal finishing as the last step.
