Engraving barrels??
What do you all use to mark your barrels after rebarreling?
I looked at the B-Square stamp set, looks like it would work. But is there something better?
Thanks

If you're going to stamp a barrel it should be done in a fixture that holds stamps made for it.
The difference is like the difference between "Fixed width font" and "variable font" on your computer. The B Square uses standard "Fixed width" stamps and it looks like a third grader lettering.....of course that's better that the kindergarten stuff you get by hand holding them!!
Check MSC (800) 645-7270 for the die stamps and sets. They run about $300. MEASURE something that looks good before you buy. The tendancy is to buy something way too big.
I hand engrave mine and use 3/32" as a standard.

dan belisleEngraving looks way better in my opinion. There are engraving machines available for those of us with no or little artistic talent (including me). - Dan

D HumbargerI use a New Hermes Engravo-Graph (The machine that Jewelers use to engrave trophies & plaques) that I was lucky enough to buy from a jewlry shop than went out of business.

N4652EThe same guy who butchered the mauser bolt handle describes a fixture to hold stamps, and a suggestion to adjust the spacing. For those without an engraving device, it is worth a look.
