Idaho Ronpre-64 stock question
Will a stock for a push feed Mod 70 work for a pre 64? If yes how much work is there in making this work? Ron

dempseyI don't think so, I recall the action screw spacing is different.

Idaho RonThe synthetic stock I found is 7 1/2" spacing on the screws. I measured my Pre-64 and it is 7 1/2"
The guy knows it is for a mod 70 but he is not sure which one. Can a stock from a Push feed Mod 70 be used on a pre-64? Ron

Pete in IdahoHi Ron,
If the guard screws are the same spacing there shouldn't be much work in making it work. Heck, I fitted an 03 Springfield into a M70 stock, added glass where needed, took some wood out, and since the owner was going to paint it everything ended up just fine. Your job should be a piece of cake. Pete

<RickMD>The post '64 action is considerably longer than the pre '64. It won't fit unless you use half a gallon of acraglass and then it will look like s**t.

AtkinsonI have done it both ways from time to time...
start by glassing the holes up, then re-drill them and perform minor inletting surgery, not a big deal if your carefull and take your time, think it out before you go, so you will know exactly what your doing, both with the action and the bottom metal.....

Idaho RonThanks guys. I decided NOT to get the "good deal" stock. I ordered a Bell and Carlson, tan with black spider web. Ron
