Magnum Mausers
I was just visiting over at my next favorite site : sporterizing and visited the gunsmithing forum where someone is claiming that he can alter a mauser action to feed magnums and then convert it back to a standard cartridge with no feeding issues. Has anyone else heard of this? Sounds suspicious to me. All mine that were done by professionals including one by Burgess will not function with a 8x57 in the magazine. The rounds want to pop up.

Guess it depends on how well you want it to feed. My MKXs 06 & magnum(non 375) are the same. I can find no difference except the bolt face.

As usual just my $.02

So how well do you consider your Mk X's to feed?

I have been less than impressed. I don't have a short magnum Mk X but do have a .308 and .30-06. They feed ok but certainly not like a well put together milsurp. I noticed that the mag boxes for both the magnum & standard are the same too. I can see why it was done, mainly to save machining steps. A one size fits all approach.

Anyway, back to the question. Other than the Zastava actions I've never heard of an action being altered so that it can be changed back. Sounds like someone asking for trouble.

Every quality re-work or original that I have ever handled had a wider follower and bigger/longer magazine box dimensions, and a wider opening on the frame rails. The exceptions being, some that were done as a single stack.
I would have to see that dog hunt, as they say, to believe it.

Like you they feed "OK". I have not had one fail but they feed like a basic factory rifle not like a nice custom.
