I am contenplating buying a couple of actions from Sarco, and the pictures they post show pristine actions. How well do their pictures represent the stuff they are actually selling?

I am looking at buying several of the complete M48 Yugo actions without pitting. I want to try and make a true magnum-length action and a Kurtz-length action. The M48's seem to be well made and fairly inexpensive, so if I botch the first few tries, I am not out a lot of money.

Well made the M48's are not. Cheap, that they are. Perhaps perfect for "experimenting" with until you perfect your technique and then use a couple of good actions.

I don't live that far from Sarco and was planing on taking a ride over there Saturday looking for a small ring action. Is there anything in particular you want me to look for?

I have bought stuff from Sarco dozens of times, and have come to the conclusion that they are not dishonest, just disorganized and incompetent.

I don't do biz with Sarco unless they have something I can't get anywhere else.

That means I will pay extra to shop elsewhere.

I'm certainly no M48 Yugo expert but I have one and it looks as good as any other Mauser I own or have seen. Is the steel soft or something like that? Mine is slick as a ribbon. Thanks...Bill.

I don't want to speak for z1r, but, I think what he means is that the machining isn't as nice as some of the nicer examples like the 09 Argentine, 08 Brazilians, etc.

I have examples of M48s, 24/47,s and they're probably fine, but, the 08/34 Brazilians that I have are absolutely in another class.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you happen to see which ar-15 actions they are selling, would you mind posting it (they have some listed at $88 or 3 for 259, but don't say who is the manufacturer. I'd be much obliged.

Exactly, but not just cosmetically, rarely have a I found one with the inner "C" ring perpendicular to the bolt bore as it should be. Heck, even the much maligned Turk made actions are straight if not soft.

The M48 tends to be a rough action to work. Seems the Yugoslavs made some improvement in this department when they rolled out the M48A. The predecessor, M24 is a much better made piece.

They were a very good value as shooters when you found one that didn't exhibit the sticky bolt. I just wouldn't invest my time in trying to make one into a custom.

I must have lucked out and got a good one, or maybe a I got a 48A and just didn't know it. I will agree, I have seen better machining.

I had a bad experience with Sarco some years back when I wanted to buy some .50 caliber used barrels from them.I said send me three so long as they weren't bent as I wanted to make Islamic or other early style musket barrels where they would likely be bored to a much larger caliber.

I got three destructively torched musket barrels. I complained and was told I got barrels which "weren't bent" which is "what I asked for". After a complaint and discussion I pointed out (to best recollection) that this was an interstate mail order issue with a certain type of fraud I could claim which was "omission of a material fact". I got my money back but paid the high cost of return. Today I would file a suit and burn the guy if I didn't get pristine and really good stuff.
