Lyman Tang Sight
I am looking for a period lyman tang sight for my Marlin 39 that was made in 1922. I may have a lead on one that may work. It has the flipper dipper eyepiece and the loop on the pivot screw. It is also stamped C on the underside and has a patent date of May 6, 84. Any idea if this is correct.

Thanks,

RJS

Looking in the Marlin section of my OLD GUNSIGHTS book I see that for the model 39 the list optional rear sights as the same as the model 20. The M20's last year of production was 1921 and 1922 was the first year for the M39.
The "Optional Rear Sights" tang sights they list are,

Marlin Gallery (tang) Peep Sight $100-200

Marlin No. 32 Windgauge Rear Sight $50-100

Marlin Improved Graduated (tang) Peep Sight $200-300

Lyman No.1H Combination Tang Sight $100-300

Lyman No.2H Tang Sight $125-325

Lyman 52H Windauge Tang Sight $100-200

Lyman 47 Windage Stem. This is the same stem that came on the 52 but was a replacement stem if you already had a non-windage sight. The 52 was the complete sight.

Low side of the dollar amounts are for a good workable sight 50-75% finish, high side for mint 100% finish.

Good luck on the search. Wish mine was drilled for a tang sight.

Thanks Derf and Rob, the one I was looking at is for a colt lightning 22 lr so I will continue the search. Those prices are a little staggering, I may have to get a new marbles from brownells, not period but the gun is a shooter and not collector grade. Thanks again, RJS

You might check out e-bay as these things come up fairly often. Usually not cheap but they do show up. I just picked up a like new Lyman 48 for my old '03 in the original box with screws and instructions.
