Weatherby Mark V - Reblue / Black Oxide / Duracoat?
I have a German MkV Weatherby 300 magnum which I recently restored due to a rust problem. The rust removal was done well, but the reblue of the action never restored it to the deep dark black blue it had originally - it is more of a reddish blue. Apparently some early Mark V actions metallurgy makes bluing difficult.

On top of that, I continue to have problems with surface rust and want to correct it once and for all. I've heard about Duracoat, Gun Kote, and other applications as well as Parkerizing, Weatherby advertises Black Oxide on their Dangerous Game rifle. I don't need gloss, just want a matte black rifle and action - I like the black oxide look. Suggestions? Thanks

B;ack Oxide is very closeto Bluing as formulas of bluing are different from place to place.....but essentially black oxide (properly done) is a handsome as any bluing job.

The gloss, satin, matte etc is a result of metal polish prior to bluing.

Could Weatherby reblue the rifle for you?
