tnbrian98average price on barrel swap
Could one of you guys tell me about what a gunsmith would charge to swap out barrels. I have got a remington 700vs and I bought a stainless fluted barrel for it and I was wonder about what a gunsmith would charge to take the old barrel off and put the new one on.

Paul HAssuming that the smith sets the new barrel back one thread, and then finish reams the chamber and headspaces it, I'd expect to pay $75-100.
My advice is, don't have an average smith do the work, have a good one do it.

<G.Malmborg>Headspace, recrown, orienting the flutes top dead center and test firing, $120-150.

jeffeossowait a minute.. you've got a barrel... is it a remington barrel or not?
If it's a "blank" expect $150-200 for a caliber that a smith has a reamer for.. more if he has to rent/buy one.
if it's a remington barrel and action.. and he has reamer and gages, 75 to 150...
while I don't personally like stainless barrels, there is the benefit that you wont be bluing it.

D Humbargertnbrain98:
To install the fluted barrel you have i charge $100.00 but i always recommend that since the barrel is off the action that the lugs are lapped & the receiver face trued while you're at it. Thats an extra $40.00. If the gun were mine I would also throw away that Remington recoil lug & replace it with a Holland competition disk ground .250 thick recoil lug, their about $29.00.
Hope this has helped clear the air a bit.
