tincanto add to z1r's response, I quote from "The Mauser Bolt Actions" by Jerry Kuhnhausen-
"Chasing and cleaning the 55 degree Whitworth barrel threads in a Mauser receiver with a US standard 60 degree tap can be helpful, in some cases, when a pre-threaded US made sporter barrel is to be installed. US made barrels typically have 60 degree US standard vee type threads."
the author is referring to using a 1.100"-12TPI tap, and he further states that a .980"-12TPI tap can be used on a small ring Mauser.

z1rWhy waste your time chasing the threads with a 60 degree tap when it is easier to cut proper 55 degree threads in the first place? If you have to pay for the rather expensive tap then it is a matter of false economy to get the pre-threaded barrel in the first place. This is why I don't use pre-threaded US made barrels. I cut my own 55 degree threads or would have someone cut them for me were I not able to do so myself.
