Standard magnums to Dakotas in DM rifles
Howdy!

I like detachable magazines,but I`m not a fan
of belted cases.Because of this I have often wondered it would be possible to make magazines
for short(30-06)lenght magnums feed slightly
fatter Dakota cartridges.
The difference in rim diameters is minimal,
.532" vs .544" , what makes me think it should be a
fairly easy conversion.
Perhaps some careful bending and/or filing the
magazine lips would be required due to a little
greater difference in shoulder diameters,
.490" vs .530".
Since this is Gunsmithing forum I believe someone
here might already have tried or even done
conversion like this.If not I`d like to hear your comments anyway.
Here are the DM rifles I thought about:
BERETTA MATO
PARKER HALE 1200 Super Clip
SAKO TRG-S
SAKO M75
SAVAGE 111FC/114CU/116FCS
STEYR PROHUNTER
TIKKA WHITETAIL

If the can do it to fixed-mag, why not?

Ask him (or her [Wink] ).

"If the can do it to fixed-mag,why not?"
Yeeah, but I`ve never ever heard of anybody
doing it to detachable mag,and that I find
strange. [Confused]
Perhaps it isn`t THAT easy as I think, hence my
question.
Bearing in mind all advantages of the Dakotas
over std magnums,I`m surprised to see them
(Dakotas) still in "semi-wildcat/proprietary"
status.Hope it'll change in time,unless the current
WSM/SAUM/WSSM craze kills them out...but I don,t
think so. [Smile]

"Who`s your smith?Ask him"

The only smith I know deals with Gas & Blank firing handgun replicas.I doubt he`ll know [Eek!]
